Ice Plants

KTI is a manufacturer of plants for producing flake ice, plate ice, block ice and tube ice. The special feature is, that all plants are prefabricated and installed inside of containers, which brings massive savings in transport and commissioning on-site. KTI ice plants are the result of years of experience in the production of ice. The engineers of KTI not only develop high-performance ice plants with daily ice production capacities between 20 and 100 tons of flake ice or 20 and 200 tons of plate per unit, but also highly efficient systems.

In addition to the standard portfolio, KTI also designs and produces customized ice plants for special applications. Our engineers appreciate to advise you for special solutions.

Flake Ice Plants (FLIP)

KTI Flake Ice Plants (FLIP) are turnkey solutions, prefabricated and installed in a 40-ft. container, available with ice production capacities of 20 to 100 tons of flake ice per day per unit.

KTI relies on innovative designs and reliable refrigerants to guarantee an efficient operation for each Flake Ice Plant.

KTI’s FLIPs are the perfect solution for providing ice to and cooling various industrial processes, from concrete cooling, through the chemical industry, to cooling fish and other foods.

KTI relies on innovative designs and reliable refrigerants to guarantee an efficient operation for each Flake Ice Plants. By prefabricating the complete systems in containers, all plants can be easily transported, quickly commissioned and expanded as required.

All KTI Flake Ice Plants are equipped with ice makers that have non-rotating drums to avoid the risk of refrigerant leakage at the shaft seals. Special knives mechanically remove the ice on the inside of the ice maker. Ice thicknesses between 1.5 mm and 2.5 mm can be realized, which have to be adjusted on the field of application and according to the requirements. The flake ice is subcooled to approx. -7 °C and can therefore be stored longer and transported better.

All Flake Ice Plants are prefabricated in our production facilities in Balzheim, Germany, and only have to be commissioned on-site.

Plate Ice Plants (PLIP)

KTI Plate Ice Plants (PLIP) can be used highly flexible. Either only for plate ice production or for the production of plate ice and cold water or purely as a chiller unit with falling film evaporator.

The Plate Ice Plants are available with ice production capacities between 20 and 200 tons per day per unit. With ammonia as refrigerant, the plants run highly energy efficient. KTI Plate Ice Plants (PLIP) are flexible in their application either for the pure production of plate ice or for combined operations to produce cold water and ice or as a falling film chiller for cold water production.

KTI relies on ammonia as refrigerant as the basis for their Plate Ice Plants. With this, a highly efficient as well as environment-friendly solution for ice production was developed. The is generated on non-rotating stainless steel evaporators, which also reduce the need for maintenance to a minimum.

All Plate Ice Plants are perfectly combinable with KTI ice storages. Further, the whole portfolio of accessoires for ice transportation, stairs and platforms or water tanks, fits to the PLIPs.

For large-scale demands of plate ice, several KTI Plate Ice Plants are combined to a Plate Ice Factory with a refrigeration capacity of several megawatts. Depending on KTI’s customers’ requirements the setup can be expanded easily thanks to the modular design. Ice production capacities of 800 tons and more per day can be realized easily – everything without costs work construction works like building envelopes or others.

Mobile Block Ice Plants (MBIP)

KTI Block Ice Plants are available with production capacities up to 50 tons per day. The block ice is produced in blocks of 25 kg each, which is the best size for proper handling.

The KTI concept for Mobile Block Ice Plants has been established through the last decades. The specially designed thin-walled ice cans made of corrosion-resistant steel are filled with pre-chilled water and dipped into the cold brine. After a certain freezing time, the blocks are pulled out of the brine, slightly defrosted and emptied via a ramp. This system has proven itself over decades.

A Block Ice Plant usually consists of a machine container for the refrigeration plant, an insulated steel framework for the actual ice production and an ice storage container. Up to a production capacity of 10 tons of ice per day, the entire system (without ice storage) can be installed in a single 40-ft. container.

KTI MBIPs require no construction activities and are built extremely compact. Installed turnkey in containers or transportable steel frames, the location for placing the plant is very flexible and relocation is quickly possible. As with all other KTI products, only the water supply, power supply and foundation needs to be provided.
