Chillers

All KTI chiller systems are designed and manufactured according to the customer’s requirements – one of our main principles. Therefore, KTI is able to offer a broad portfolio of solutions to its customers – starting with cold water plants or ice water plants to glycol chillers up to special designs such as the KTI Underground Chiller or process cooling systems for the beverage industry.

KTI chillers work equally reliably through the use of proven components and efficiently under demanding conditions. All chillers are prefabricated in a standard container, piped and electrically wired to a turnkey solution. Standard containers not only provide an extremely robust machine room but KTI’s customers benefit also from an extremely fast on-site installation.

Likewise, this structure offers the possibility to transport the plants quickly to a location.

Thanks to our experience and know-how gained in recent decades, the systems are constantly being further developed and thus meet the latest technical standards. All chillers are operated with a one-, two-, three- or four-stage refrigeration cycle and thus achieve the highest levels of efficiency – depending on the requirements and operating conditions. This helps the customer to reduce operating costs for energy.

Containerized Cold Water Plants (CCWP)

The KTI Containerized Cold Water Plants (CCWP) efficiently and reliable cool down fresh water to a certain specified outlet temperature, normally between +3 °C and +5 °C. Depending on the water inlet temperature and climatic conditions, KTI designs the plants individually. One main focus is on high efficiency operation of the plants.

The containerized cold water systems (CCWP) from KTI cool water at inlet temperatures between +20 °C to +45 °C down to temperatures between +5 °C and +3 °C.

At very high water inlet temperatures, the first stage pre-cools the water to +38 °C via the evaporative condenser before being finally cooled to the desired outlet temperatures. Depending on the ambient temperature and fresh water temperature, KTI designs the optimal system for any condition.

Up to a production of 180 m³ of cold water per day, the systems are mounted in a 20-foot ISO container, up to a production of 440 m³ of cold water in a 40-foot ISO container. KTI offers the possibility to integrate the evaporation condenser directly into the container. This results in a very compact plug-and-play solution.

Of course, the systems can also be built with the same quality on frames for installation in buildings. This enables us to offer our customers individual solutions.

As the perfect complement to the cold water systems, KTI offers perfectly insulated water tanks that are either directly installed in the machine container (ICWT), installed as a unit into a separate container (CCWT) or in a solid steel frame (SFWT).

Containerized Ice Water Plants (CIWP)

For water temperatures below +1 °C KTI manufactures Containerized Ice Water Plants (CIWP). The CIWPs feature a special ice bank system, which allows the water to circulate and to provide cooling energy on peak demands. Likewise to all other chillers, KTI takes the utmost care to ensure efficient operation.

Are water temperatures below +1 °C required, KTI offers Containerized Ice Water Plants (CIWP), which cool down water at an inlet temperature between +20 °C and +45 °C.

KTI CIWPs are equipped with a special ice bank systems, which allow the water to circulated around a shell-and-tube evaporator or a plate evaporator.

The ice water systems have a four-stage cooling of the water. First, the water is cooled to +38 °C via a cooling tower or evaporative condenser. Subsequently, further cooling via shell-and-tube evaporators to +4 °C is performed before running through the ice bank system for chilling the water below +1 °C.

Up to a production of 345 m³ ice water per day, the plants are mounted in a 20-ft container, up to a production of 440m³ ice water in a 40-ft. container. The condensing unit is placed on the roof of the container, but can also be integrated as required into the container, which results into a very compact plug-and-play solution.

Of course, the systems can also be built with the same quality on frames for installation in buildings. This enables us to offer our customers individual solutions.

As the perfect complement to the ice water systems, KTI offers perfectly insulated water tanks that are either directly installed in the machine container (ICWT ), installed as a unit into a separate container (CCWT) or in a solid steel frame (SFWT).

Aggregate-Chiller (CAC-w)

KTI Aggregate-Chillers (CAC-w) are specially designed to meet the heavy-duty requirements of the concrete industry to cool aggregates on wet-belt systems or flooded silos. Even water, contaminated with mud or gravel, is effectively cooled below +1 °C by a stainless steel falling film evaporator.

All CAC-w plants are available as containerized systems and provide highest performance ratios.

KTI has developed special Aggregate-Chillers (CAC-w) that meet the extreme demands of the concrete industry to cool aggregates on wet-belts or in flooded silos before feeding the batching plant. KTI realized the key requirement to produce water with a temperature between +1 °C and +4 °C by using falling film chillers, which have been specially developed to effectively cool water even when its contaminated with mud and gravels. The Aggregate-Chillers are extremely resistant to dirt and designed to reduce the cleaning effort to a minimum.

Extremely stable stainless steel evaporators are used in the falling film evaporators, which can also be cleaned during operation. Furthermore, these offer an excellent heat transfer. KTI relies on ammonia as refrigerant, which significantly contributes to an highly efficient operation of the plants.

The plants are available with refrigeration capacities between 750 and 1500 kW and installed in a 40-ft. container.

Features:
Refrigeration capacity: 750 -1500 kW per unit

Underground Chiller (UC)

KTI Underground Chillers (UC) open new boundaries for the operation of chillers and are specially developed for the application in underground mining. Both the evaporator as well as the condenser are designed for heavy contaminated water and exceed the performance of conventional chillers.

The UC series of KTI is integrated in special steel frames for an easy transport through the mine shaft and underground.

KTI Underground Chillers (UC) are specifically designed for use in underground mining where both the evaporator and the condenser can handle heavily contaminated water without any loss in performance.

In particular, the engineers of KTI have considered the special requirements of mining operators during the R&D phase. One basic outcome is that the shape of the Underground Chiller is designed for an easy transport down the mine shaft and underground to the heat-emitting places.

With the Underground Chiller, KTI opens new boundaries in the operation of chillers. The technical features considerably exceed the specifications of any conventional chiller. Heavy-duty reciprocating compressors ensure a stable operation and guarantee constant availability of cooling capacity. In addition, KTI has even achieved 15% in energy savings compared to standard chillers.
